Schools are an a advantageous opportunity to build a society that is mentally healthy, as students spend over 1,000 hours a year in school. The American School Counselor Association recommends 1 counselor and 1 social worker for every 250 students. The reality:
⇰ 1 counselor + 1 social worker for every 500 students in most schools.
⇰ 1 school psychologist for every 1,400 students.
Not only this, The American School Counselor Association recommends that schools with students that have physical and/or mental disabilities should lower the number of students per social worker/counselor.
Have you ever wondered why people say you should learn a language at an early age. It's because the human capacity to learn during developmental stages is infinitely greater than it is later in life. This is why the content that our kids are getting in school at an early age is so important. Increasing the presence of counselors and mental health awareness in schools will have a lasting impact on the mental well being of future generations. And start teaching your kids about mental health at home!
